Ant Genomics: Community Portal

Welcome to the Community Portal for Ant Genomics (Formicidae: Hymenoptera).

This website came out of a community organized meeting at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, USA in January 2009.

At the time of the inception of an ant genomics meeting the ant community was without a single ant genome sequenced, but by the time we all came together for the meeting there was one genome in the sequencing pipeline (Solenopsis invicta - Red Imported Fire Ant) and two additional ant genomes sequencing projects had been funded (Harpegnathos saltator & Camponotus floridanus).

More recently three additional genomes of fungus-growing ants have received funding to be sequenced, along with 14 ant-associated fungal and bacterial genomes.  From this project the first sequences from Atta cephalotes are available.

In addition, the genomes of the harvester ant,  Pogonomyrmex barbatus, and the Argentine ant, Linepithema humile, are both being sequenced.

As a community we would like to take advantage of our diversity of research interests to most successfully utilize the data from these and future genome sequencing projects, which we hope will continue to foster our commitment to collaboration.

More importantly we would like to use our community knowledge to generate interest (and funding opportunities) in future ant genome sequencing projects.
